Vitezslav Jaros: The 'wool' with an uncertain Liverpool future eyeing cup chance
Arne Slot is expected to hand another chance to a young goalkeeper who caught his eye in pre-season.
Prior to his surprise cameo against Crystal Palace earlier this month, few Liverpool fans would have been familiar with the name of Vitezslav Jaros, never mind his accent.
Only on the bench in the absence of the ill Caoimhin Kelleher at Selhurst Park, the 23-year-old was unexpectedly handed his first-team bow 11 minutes from time as a result of Alisson Becker sustaining a muscle injury.
Fortunately, he took this big moment effortlessly in his stride, helping the Reds keep a clean sheet that secured them both a 1-0 victory and top spot in the Premier League.
But, rather than the composed performance of an unforeseen debutant, much of the discussion around Jaros actually centred on his post-match interview with LFCTV.
Specifically, the fact that a player born in the Czech Republic before moving to Merseyside at the age of 16 sounded so much like a wool (or, for the uninitiated, a person raised in close proximity to but outside of the city of Liverpool).
