Who is David Lynch?

Well, for starters, not the critically acclaimed film director. Rather, I’m a journalist with over a decade’s experience reporting on Liverpool FC who has worked for the club itself, the Evening Standard and the Sunday Mirror (to name a few) along the way.

Thanks to my years on the Merseyside patch, I’ve built up a strong contact book that helps me break news and provide insights into the Reds that you won’t find elsewhere. I’m also a regular at Anfield and the AXA Training Centre, meaning I’m in the fortunate position of being able to keep fans abreast of every match, press conference, and development at the club they love.

Why are you on Substack?

It’s hardly breaking news, but journalism is changing. The well-worn path from local newspaper to national for patch reporters like me no longer really exists, and it’s getting harder and harder to find publications willing to invest in news-gathering and measured coverage.

Instead, there is a clamour to drive clicks at all costs, which leads to poorer, less insightful reporting, and ensures those in power at football clubs aren’t held to account.

My hope is that this Substack can help provide a home for the news and insight I can provide, and that there are Liverpool supporters out there who are keen to support better coverage of their club.
